Understanding SETAs

SETA, an acronym for Sector Education and Training Authority, is a critical component of South Africa’s Skills Development framework.  SETAs play a pivotal role in facilitating skills development within specific economic sectors.

SETAs act as intermediaries between employers, employees and Skills Development providers to ensure that skills development needs align with industry requirements.

South Africa is divided into different economic sectors, each overseen by its designated SETA. Currently, there are 21 SETAS, each responsible for a specific industry or group of related industries.

Both the Workplace Skills Plans and Annual Training Reports are submitted by the organisations to the SETAs for ensuring that businesses contribute meaningfully to the enhancement of skills within their respective sectors.
